Weight-Loss Diet for People with Blood Type B
In his book “Eat Right for Your Type”, Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo offers a revolutionary theory of nutrition, which is based on four blood types. Although the theory is not specifically designed for weight loss, people following the recommendations of Dr. D’Adamo naturally lose excess weight and achieve optimum performance. Pursuing a genetically tailored diet allows the body to start a natural cleaning process of flushing out various toxins that are mostly stored in fat tissue.
Cleaning from toxins directly leads to getting rid of fat deposits. By eliminating certain toxic foods, people with specific blood types can also heal their digestive tract, boost metabolism, normalize the production of insulin, and restore their hormonal system, which leads to achieving and controlling of healthy weight.
People with blood type B carry balanced blood genes of ancient nomadic people - the first herdsmen who evolved in the area of the Himalayan highlands about 10-15 thousand years ago. Their diet should include a variety of foods and be as close to that of the first herdsmen as possible. Dr. D’Adamo states that type Bs’ menu is very balanced and “represents the best of the animal and vegetable kingdoms”. Carriers blood type B can be characterized as following:
- dairy eaters;
- red meat and fish eaters;
- possess tolerant digestive system;
- have strong immune system;
- need a balance between physical and mental activities to stay lean and alert;
- are prone to autoimmune disorders, such as multiple sclerosis of chronic fatigue syndrome, if eat wrong foods.
In other words, people with blood type B require balanced daily schedule and a diet based on natural dairy and animal products with an addition of fruits and vegetables. Their nomadic ancestors ate high-protein and high-fat diets with few carbohydrates and almost no grains, and their bodies were able to efficiently metabolise such fuel into energy and high performance. But if a person with blood type B consumes a diet high in grains and poor in fats and protein, he will inevitably gain weight.
More specifically, the basic weight-loss approach for type Bs is to restrict or even eliminate the consumption of certain grains, such as corn and buckwheat, gluten-containing breads and pastas, legumes, beans, and certain nuts and seeds, such as peanuts and sesame seeds. Any of these products can disrupt the effectiveness of metabolic processes in type Bs and result in fluid retention, weight gain, hypoglycaemia, and fatigue.
To sum up, if people with blood type B want to lose excess pounds, they should avoid the following foods containing toxic for them lectins:
- whole wheat, rye, and oatmeal products (all of which contain harmful gluten);
- corn and buckwheat (slow digestive processes, inhibits insulin efficiency, and promote fat gain);
- lentils (impair calorie utilization and cause hypoglycaemia);
- chicken meat (contains agglutinating lectins);
- shellfish (contains disruptive lectins);
- tomatoes (irritate the digestive tract);
- peanuts and sesame seeds (cause hypoglycaemia and hamper efficient metabolic processes).
Foods that aid efficient metabolism and encourage weight loss in type Bs are:
- organ meats and red meats, especially lamb, rabbit, and venison;
- deep-ocean seafood;
- natural dairy products, such as cheese, kefir and yogurt;
- eggs; and
- licorice tea (fights hypoglycaemia).
Sample weight-loss menu for people with blood type B:
Breakfast: 2 poached eggs, 1 slice of gluten-free bread with cheese, 1 prune, and a cup of green tea.
Lunch: Spinach salad with tuna, 2 rice cakes, and a glass of grapefruit juice.
Snack: natural yogurt and 1 banana.
Dinner: Venison stew, brown rice, steamed vegetables, and a glass of kefir.
