Will You Lose Weight With Ear Stapling?

Acupuncture is probably one of the oldest types of traditional medicine, still widely practiced today and promising a drug-free approach in treating numerous health conditions. This ancient Oriental art offers relief from pains, depression, PMS, and a host of internal illnesses and even claims to help people lose weight! No wonder many overweight people are happy to know that they can eat all doughnuts they want and still lose weight with the help of a traditional Chinese healer. To make things ever easier, a number of “beauty salons” and “weight-loss businesses” now offer “acupuncture-based” ear stapling that is supposed to instantly make you lean and fit.

The idea of ear stapling for slimming is indeed imbedded in the art of acupuncture (or, to be more precise, acupressure). For a fee which is much less than a Weight Watchers’ membership or a pass to a prestigious gym, you can ask your local “beauty expert” to insert a staple in your ear (or, better yet, in both!). You will be told that the staple is strategically located to press on the “stomach energy meridian” and, thus, it will miraculously curb your appetite and you will watch your pounds literally falling off your body! With this miracle surgery staple, you will lose cravings for chocolates, burgers, greasy fries, TV dinners, and everything else. It will even make your morning coffee and cigarettes taste so bad that you will probably quit smoking and drinking coffee all together for good! As the result, the ear staple will transform you into a healthy and lean individual without making you diet, exercise, or feel guilty about your sedentary lifestyle and lunches at McDonald‘s. Or at least this is what you will be told…

Indeed, will you lose weight by having your ear stapled? A doctor of the Ohio Board of Cosmetology has noted on this new weight -loss trend that ear stapling does not have any effect on slimming. With no medical ground to support such bold claims, ear stapling performed by unqualified individuals can even cause major infection and become life-threatening.

An experienced acupuncturist from the Canadian Association of Wholistic Practitioners commented that, to correct the flow of energy, acupuncture or acupressure procedures should be repeatedly performed for limited periods of time. Ongoing stimulating of a pressure point can cause energy imbalances and disrupt bodily metabolism.

However, some people who underwent the ear stapling procedure claimed that they had managed to lose some weight without dieting or exercising. Whether it is a placebo effect or the magic staple is really able to suppress your appetite - our advice is that you should do your homework before trying any new weight-loss gimmick. If you believe in acupuncture and want to lose weight by applying this traditional and respected art - find a qualified practitioner in your area and do not use services of back-alley “experts”.
