Twelve Tips for Successful Weight Loss (Part 2)
Tip # 7. Treat yourself with your favourite food on a regular basis.
Experts say that, when you deny yourself foods you truly love, be it chocolate or ice cream, you are likely to binge on them sooner or later. Therefore, a more practical strategy is to eat small portions of your favourite treats regularly, once or twice weekly. By implementing this method, you will be freed from a temptation to devour an entire chocolate bar or several bags of potato chips at one sitting.
Tip # 8. Keep your pantry healthy and stay away from foods that trigger cravings.
While shopping for food or choosing a dish from a restaurant menu, opt for healthy, wholesome, and low-calorie products.
Tip # 9. Write down a list of activities you enjoy apart from eating, and pin it onto your refrigerator door.
We often tend to overeat when bored, lonely, depressed, or tired. In order to refocus the mind from thoughts about food, re-read your list and act on something that does not involve munching – go out for a relaxing walk, call a friend, read an interesting detective story, or meditate.
Tip # 10. Once a week, allow yourself a day without dieting.
Choose Saturday or Sunday as your no-diet day. Enjoy a full dinner, eat your favourite treats, and forget to count calories! This strategy will prevent you from having unplanned binges and feeling guilty afterwards.
Tip # 11. Don’t forget to exercise regularly!
Regular moderate exercise, especially combined with a calorie-reduced diet, is the best way to lose unwanted poundage. Remember that exercise should be a fun activity, not a torture or punishment. Choose physical activities you truly enjoy, such as a game of tennis, gardening, walking on nature, or riding a bike. Avoid types of exercise that make your feel exhausted and promote increased appetite.
Tip # 12. Practice meditation and visualisation.
Every night before going to bed, meditate and try to visualize your body becoming stronger, healthier and slimmer. A positive attitude to dieting and an encouraging self-talk are your best friends in achieving perfect weight!
