According to a Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry publication, researchers from Taiwan have gathered new data on why a diet rich in antioxidants and natural flavonoids is so beneficial for weight loss. Vegetables, berries, fruits, nuts, and even tea, red wine, chocolate and cocoa are the main dietary sources of naturally-occurring antioxidants, phenolic acids, and flavonoids. Experts say that people who eat plenty of these highly beneficial nutrients rarely suffer from obesity and related diseases.

According to a long-term research conducted by the Reality Coalition — a national association of experts on obesity and diabetes, the health authorities and media should re-evaluate their recommendations regarding weight loss. The Coalition scientists suggest that many current publications are misleading the reader by saying that health benefits can be achieved only by losing considerable amounts of body weight. In fact, dropping even some weight can be extremely healthful for most overweight and obese individuals.
Weight Loss: Opt for Lentils Instead of Potatoes or White Breads
According to a Cochrane Systematic Review, weight loss can be achieved easier if your diet is high in low-glycemic index carbohydrates, such as vegetables, beans, or lentils, rather than “white” staple foods, such as potatoes, refined breads, or polished rice. Lentils and other healthy carbs release glucose into the bloodstream slowly and thus contribute to a steady level of overall energy, while high-glycemic index carbs, when consumed, rapidly elevate blood sugar levels, which results in “blood sugar spikes” and can cause hypoglycaemia, food cravings and weight gain.
