One million Nigerien children under five – more than 1 in 4 – are at high risk of acute malnutrition in 2013. ECHO field experts carry out a monitoring of Concern Worlwide programmes in Tahoua district. The NGO provides support to the district hospital of Tahoua in order to improve care for severely undernourished children. It also helps run integrated nutrition and health care services at the community level, often in remote villages hardest hit by drought and increased food prices.

You can’t ignore nutrition. It affects us all. Whether you eat well balanced food or a lot of junk, it is all affecting your overall nutrition. The following tips can help you eat a healthier diet that still tastes delicious.

Make healthier decisions slowly and don’t try to rush things. Change normally does not occur right away. Do not shock your system too much by consuming foods that you hate. Add healthy food items to your diet gradually. Form healthy habits over time.

Vary your protein sources, and don’t consume just meat. Many sources of meatless proteins are available. Nuts and legumes, for example, contain high levels of protein, as do soy-based foods such as tofu and tempeh. You can add these to an established dish, or just make a meal out of them. Keep your diet interesting by switching up the types of proteins that you use.

Skip processed foods that are high in trans fats. Eating foods with trans fats is a ticket to developing heart disease. As your body processes trans fats, its levels of bad cholesterol are raised while the levels of good cholesterol drop.

A hot bowl of oatmeal will get you started on a good track for the rest of your day. Oatmeal is very filling and can prevent you from having the urge to snack during the morning.

Always eat in moderation when you are deciding on a meal plan. Overeating causes an influx of nutrients, creating a situation where you gain fat. This can mess with your metabolism and cause you to be unhealthy.

If given the choice between different kinds of nuts to cook with, use almonds. They are more nutritious than all the other nuts, maintain your cholesterol from going up, increase protein levels and keep blood cells healthy. They don’t cost as much as other nuts, either.

You need to eat enough healthy calories for your system to function properly. Sugary foods will leave you stranded, if you are eating nutrition-deficient candies and sweets. Your body is seeking positive caloric input through fresh, organic veggies, proteins and beneficial carbs. The amount you eat is as important as what you actually eat.

If you are going to indulge in some chocolate, be sure to pick dark chocolate over sweeter varieties. Dark chocolate has flavonoids that keep your blood pressure down. Antioxidants are also good for lowering your cholesterol. For best results, eat chocolate that contains around 70% cocoa. Eat small quantities of chocolate since this food remains high in fat.

Have a healthy snack before you eat a Thanksgiving dinner. You are likely to overeat if you begin Thanksgiving dinner with an empty stomach. Eating something healthy beforehand will help you fill up faster and limit your food intake.

Eat foods high in zinc for a better immune system. Zinc is a great way to boost immunities, foster quick recovery from illness and stave off future sickness. Some of the foods that are highest in zinc are dark chocolate, cocoa powder, oysters, peanuts, crab and pumpkin seeds. As an added bonus, you’ll get loads of antioxidants, which are essential for getting rid of free radicals.

The best ways to cook meat from a nutritional standpoint are baking, broiling, grilling, and roasting. Start using cooking spray in place of butter when preparing foods. When you prepare ground beef, always strain and rinse it to get rid of the fat. Doing this will get rid of unnecessary fat.

Nobody likes to say no to themselves. Deprivation is not the pinnacle of nutrition. Nutrition is focused on eating the right foods and avoiding foods that are not good for your body. You should apply the different tips you just read and start making small changes to your diet.
